The Axe-man Painting
Hello friends!
I’m ramping up my art skills and the only way to do that is practice. Practice alone isn’t enough, I have to double up by learning new skill as well as polishing old ones. In this case I’m learning to paint digitally. So let’s get started.
Tools:
Note 5
Autodesk Sketchbook
Wacom Cintiq Companion Hybid
Initial drawing:
To start I used blue line with the pencile tool on my Note 5 phone using Sketchbook. This step I use to get a general idea of the shape I want and start to see the concept I had in my head.
Initial Drawing Phase 2:
This step I use red lines over the blue on another layer. With the red I take the basic shapes and mold them into the forms I want. Thin of the blue as the bones and he red as the meat or flesh.
Initial Drawing Phase 3:
The last step of the initial design is to add flesh over the meat. This I do with black lines. The blue and red are then hidden leaving just the black to work from.
Final Thoughts:
I see problems with the anatomy. For the most part it has to do with the placement of the head. Since he is looking down his chin should be on his chest. Which means his neck is too long. I am not going o fix it, instead I will move forward. I have identified the problem and learned, that is what really matters. I have more work to do and limited time. Stay tuned next week as we move from the line drawing to paintings.
Feel free to drop me a line with any questions or suggestions.
